Men's Soccer Defeats LA Galaxy

April 12, 2004

For the second time in the spring season, the UCLA men's soccer team defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition game at the Home Depot Center Monday morning. The Bruins won by a score of 3-1 on goals from Chad Barrett, Evan Corey and Mike Enfield. Barrett also had two assists.

UCLA had a 1-0 lead at halftime on Barrett's goal, and Alejandro Moreno tied it up in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Bruins came right back though, receiving goals from Corey and Enfield to secure the victory. UCLA previously defeated the Galaxy on Feb. 19, 1-0 on an Eli Meschures goal.

'Today was a good game for us,' said UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. 'Both teams are at different stages of their respective seasons. We appreciate the opportunity to play the Galaxy, knowing that they're in the middle of their season and these exhibition games are an opportunity for Sigi (Schmid) to see some of the players that didn't play in their game on Saturday. Once again, our mentality was very good and hopefully another building block towards the 2004 season.'

UCLA lineup: Nate Pena, Kiel McClung, Brandon Owens, Patrick Ianni, Jordan Harvey, Taylor Canel, Ryan Valdez, Eli Meschures, Mike Enfield, Ahmed Khalil, Chad Barrett.

Galaxy lineup: Daniel Popik, Scot Thompson, Ricky Lewis, Josh Gardner, Guillermo Gonzalez, Ned Grabavoy, Chris Aloisi, Marcelo Saragosa, Cobi Jones, Alejandro Moreno, Joseph Ngwenya.
