No. 2 Bears Return Home to Face Oregon State

This Week: The Golden Bears return home this weekend to face the Beavers from Oregon State in their second dual race of the season. The racing is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. at Redwood Shores. In last year's race, the varsity eight beat OSU by four seconds, and the second varsity eight won by 15 seconds.
Bears Vs. Beavers: Over the past six years, the Bears varsity eight has never lost a dual race to Oregon State. The last time the Beavers beat Cal was during the 1997 season.
San Diego Crew Classic Recap: Just after receiving the No. 2 ranking in the CRCA/USRowing Poll, the Bears proved they deserved to be at the top by winning their second straight Jessop-Whittier Cup over Pac-10 foe Washington. The varsity eight got out to an early lead, and was able to hold off the surging Huskies.The second varsity eight dominated the rest of the field, rowing to an open water finish over second place Washington. The Bears' novice boat came in second behind Washington, while the women's open finished second behind Lookout Rowing Club.
Did You Know: This is the first time the JV eight has won a grand final at the San Diego Crew Classic since the women's JV eight race was created in 1984.

Looking Ahead: The next test for the Bears is a re-match with No. 7 Washington on Saturday, April 24 at Redwood Shores. The first race is scheduled for 9 a.m. The Bears will try to continue their winning ways, while the Huskies will look to bounce back from their loss to Cal in the Jessop-Whittier Cup Final.This figures to be a good race between two nationally ranked crews who both have the potential to be crowned national champions at the NCAA's this May.
