This Week: The Golden Bears return home to Redwood Shores this weekend to face No. 12 Oregon State. The men begin racing at 10:10 a.m. Last year, the two teams did not race head to head, but did meet at the San Diego Crew Classic and the Pac-10 championships. Oregon State placed third behind Cal and Washington in both regattas.

The Beavers: The 2004 Oregon State Beavers opened the spring racing season with a No. 12 ranking in the US Rowing Preseason Poll, their highest ranking ever.The varsity eight figures to be strong this year, with four returning oarsmen from last year's boat that placed third at Pac-10's. Joining the remaining varsity eight are three sophomores and two new seniors.

'We are looking forward to racing down there (Redwood Shores) this weekend,' said Beavers head coach Kjell Oswald. 'Redwood Shores is always a great venue and our guys really enjoy competing with Cal.'

San Diego Crew Classic Recap: For the sixth year in a row, the Golden Bears controlled the waters of Mission Bay to captured the prestigious Copley Cup at the 31st annual San Diego Crew Classic. The varsity eight got out quick over the first 500 meters and was able to hold off a late surge by Northeastern to claim the cup.The second varsity boat was not able to overcome a late surge by Washington, finishing second to the Huskies by six seconds.Cal's freshmen eight dominated the field, rowing to an eight-second, open water, victory over Stanford.

Looking Ahead: The highly anticipated dual race between No. 2 Washington and No. 3 Cal will take place Saturday, April 24 at Redwood Shores. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.With two of the best crews in the country, this race figures to be a preview of what's to come at the Pac-10 Championships and the IRA's.
