PAC-10 RACE TOUGHER THAN EVER!
It's an absolute bottle neck in the Conference race with every team within two and a half games of one another in classic Pac-10 fashion... To support how strong the Conference is top to bottom, no team this season has swept another Pac-10 team in Conference counting play... In Pac-10 action this week, ARIZONA STATE will leave the desert for the first time in 25 games to play at UCLA, STANFORD will play its first home Conference action versus rival CALIFORNIA and WASHINGTON STATE will host only its eighth home game of the season versus USC... In non-conference action, ARIZONA hosts UT Pan-Am, OREGON STATE hits the road to test Sacramento State and WASHINGTON will travel to Georgia Tech.

2004 PAC-10 TEAM NOTES

Arizona- Although only exhibition, the Wildcats hung close with the Triple-A Tuscon Sidewinders, out hitting them 11-10, but eventually falling 8-5 on Apr. 6... In the midst of playing 13 games in 17 days, Arizona is currently 3-5 with five games left to play.. In the 9-7 loss to UCLA on Apr. 8 SO INF Jordan Brown went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI, his first multi home run game of the season... Over the weekend Brown went 7-for-14 (.500).

Arizona State- Arizona State stayed in the national polls (Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll) for the 89th straight week... ASU lost a season high 3 games in a row last week, its longest losing streak since the beginning of the 2002 season... The Sun Devils have lost four series in a row... After going 18-6 vs. non-conference foes, ASU has only Conference opponents left to play... The Sun Devils now start a eight game road trip after going 16-9 during their 25-game home stand... JR RHP Jason Urquidez threw 7.0 innings with 6 SO this weekend versus Oral Roberts, moving his ERA to 2.70, fourth best in the league.

California- The Bears ended their 11-game losing streak at Dedeaux Field by beating the Trojans 4-2 on Apr. 8, eventually winning the series 2-1.. The losing streak at USC dated back to Mar. 29, 1996, and it was the first series win for the Bears since the 1986 season... In the 11-4 loss to USC on Apr. 9, JR INF James Holder and SO INF Allen Craig both belted solo shots in the second inning, the first runs given up by USC JR LHP Michael Friedman... JR RHP Jesse Ingram recorded two saves this weekend giving him seven on the season and tying him with teammate SR RHP Matt Brown for third on the all-time Cal saves list with 16.

Oregon State- SO OF Jacoby Ellsbury received nine stitches and bruised his face from crashing into the wall trying to make a diving catch in the 11-8 loss to Stanford on Apr. 8, he reportedly sustained no major injuries but is unlikely to play for the next week... On Apr. 9, SR LHP Jake Postlewait picked up his second win over a Top-5 team in the last two years when OSU beat Stanford 4-3, working 7.1 innings with nine hits and five strikeouts... Over the weekend, JR OF Chris Campos hit .667 (8-for-12) with three home runs, seven RBI and a 1.500 slugging percentage against Stanford.

Stanford- Stanford slipped from the No. 1 to No. 2 spot in every national poll, the first time they have not been ranked number one by one of the polls since Feb. 16... Stanford starts a six game home stand today and at home the Cardinal have won 20 of their last 21, and are 11-1 at home this year... In Stanford's 11-8 win over Oregon State on Apr. 8, SO 1B John Mayberry Jr. hit two home runs in the game for four RBI... It was his second two homer game of the season... Pac-10 Player of the Week, SR OF Brian Hall recorded a home run in every game this weekend, running his career hit streak to 15 games, a season high for Stanford... In the Apr. 8 game, Ash was credited with an inside the park home run when OSU's Ellsbury crashed into the wall in center unable to make the catch.

UCLA- In their first weekend road series, the Bruins went 2-1, the first of two series meetings with Arizona this season... SR RHP Casey Janssen picked up his sixth win of the season throwing 7.2 innings with only one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts in UCLA's 4-3 win over Arizona on Apr. 9... FR RHP Kevin Brophy earned his third win of the season versus Pepperdine on Apr. 6, it was his second win in three days counting the Stanford series the week before... FR RHP Brant Rustich earned his first collegiate save in 1.1 innings of scoreless work against Pepperdine in that same game.

USC- JR LHP Michael Friedman gave up his first two runs in the 11-4 win over Cal on Apr. 9, but still has just a 0.96 ERA after pitching 18.2 innings this season... SR INF Michael Moon went 8-for-14 (.571) with one home run and six RBI over the weekend... The Trojans are second in the league with 33 stolen bases... SO SS Blake Sharpe has knocked 51 hits this season, third most in the Pac-10 thus far.

Washington- The Huskies completed their 12-game road trip by going 8-4, finishing with an 8-5 win at Portland on Apr. 6... Even though he struck out 11 hitters, FR LHP Tim Lincecum picked up his first loss after giving up four hits and five runs in six innings of work in the 9-1 loss to Washington State on Apr. 8... Lincecum is now 3-1 on the season with 77 strikeouts (tied for first in the Pac-10) and a 3.23 ERA...SO SS Brent Lillibridge continues to be hot going 7-for-12 (.583) in the series loss to WSU.

Washington State- For his performance during the week of Mar. 30- Apr. 6, JR INF Grant Richardson was honored with NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) National Player of the Week on Apr. 7...He remained hot by belting a grand slam in the Cougars 9-1 win over Washington on Apr. 8, and totalled three home runs over the last week...Richardson now has a league-leading 11 home runs and is second with 41 RBI... The Cougars 21-10 mark is the best record through 31 games since 1994 when they were 24-7 at this point of the season... SR RHP Aaron MacKenzie picked up the win in the Apr. 8 win over Washington as he pitched 7.0 innings with six strikeouts... MacKenzie and JR RHP Bryce Chamberlin have combined for a record of 11-3 while they are on the mound.

PAC-10 ON THE TUBE: Fox Sports Net will produce delayed presentations of three Conference baseball match-ups this season. The dates and games are as follows:
