Softball Travels To No. 4 California And No. 10 Stanford

ON TAP: The Arizona State softball team (30-18; 0-4 Pac-10) will play their first away (non-neutral site) games of the season as they travel to the Bay Area to take on No. 4 California (35-6; 3-3 Pac-10) on Friday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. ASU will then head over to face No. 10 Stanford (30-10; 3-3 Pac-10) on Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
TIGHT SERIES: In the past four years, Cal holds a slight 8-7 overall advantage, while ASU holds a 7-5 advantage against Stanford ... ASU has won three of the past four Pac-10 series against Cal, including the last three years ... ASU has also won three of the past four Pac-10 series against Stanford ... Cal holds a 50-33 lead in the all-time series, while the Sun Devils carry a 28-13 all-time advantage against the Cardinal.
GREEK COACHES UNITE: Even though Cal head coach Diane Ninemire and ASU head coach Linda Wells will be looking to out do the other this Friday in Berkeley, the two friends will unite after the season at the summer Olympic Games in Athens as softball coaches for the host Greek National Team. Wells, the Greek head coach, selected Ninemire to be her assistant for the 2004 games. Combined the two have over 45 years of coaching experience and have won 1,618 games.
DEVIL NOTES: Arizona State was picked to finish sixth in the 2004 Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll ... the opening game against Stephen F. Austin on January 30 was the earliest opening game, dating back to at least the mid 1980's and is the earliest opening game in head coach Linda Wells 15 years ... ASU is slated to play 65 regular season games this year, making it the most in Wells' tenure ... ASU pitchers are allowing just over five hits a game and striking out nearly eight ... ASU has won 30 or more games in nine consecutive seasons ... ASU fell out of the top-25 (April 7) for the first time in five years, since the first week of the 1999 season.
