McCall Earns Team MVP Honors At Awards Banquet

April 17, 2004

PULLMAN, Wash. - Outgoing senior Bianca McCall took home most valuable player honors to highlight the Washington State women's basketball team awards banquet, Friday night (April 16) at the Pullman Quality Inn.

McCall - an All-Pacific-10 Conference Honorable Mention selection - led the Cougars in points (12.5/game) and double figure scoring games (16) this season.

McCall's year was highlighted by a career-high 29 point effort at Stanford, Jan. 31. McCall made a career-high 11 field goals en route to posting the game-high point total. The 29 points was the highest point total by a Cougar since Feb. 24, 2000 when Alke Dietel scored 30 points at, coincidentally, Stanford.

McCall was honored by a vote from her teammates as was outgoing senior Lindsey Egeland (Cougar power award, team player award), sophomore Charmaine Jones and freshman Adriane Ferguson (most improved award) and freshman Kate Benz (outstanding newcomer award).

Egeland was also praised for her academic achievements (2003 Pac-10 Academic First Team, Academic All-America Women's Basketball District VIII University Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America). In addition, Candace Fields and Emma Joneby, who earned conference academic honorable mention honors, were also recognized.

Ferguson played in 25 games in 2003-04, starting 18. The Spokane, Wash., native reached double-digits in scoring six times. She scored a season-high 15 points in the win over Arizona State, Feb. 28.

Jones, who hails from Los Angeles, played in all 27 games averaging 6.5 points a game. She scored a career-high 19 points at Stanford, Jan. 31. Jones ended the season eighth in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage hitting at a 78 percent clip (71-of-91) from the charity stripe.

Benz, who led the team averaging 6.7 rebounds a game, pulled down 19 rebounds against San Diego State, Dec. 22, tying her for sixth on the school's all-time list for rebounds in a game. The All-Pac-10 Freshman Honorable Mention selection from Portland, Ore. tallied nine offensive and 10 defensive boards against SDSU.
