BERKELEY - The No. 28 California men's tennis team lost to No. 4 UCLA, 7-0, in the final regular season match of the 2004 season at Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley. It was the fourth-straight loss and the sixth defeat in seven matches for the Golden Bears since the beginning of April. Two weekends ago, Cal lost to UCLA, 7-0, in Los Angeles.

With the loss, Cal falls to 7-16 overall, 2-5 in the Pac-10, while UCLA improves to 18-5 overall, 6-1 in league play. Cal's last victory was over No. 11 Stanford, 4-3, at home on April 6.

Cal's No. 21-ranked doubles team of Balazs Veress and Patrick Briaud upset UCLA's No. 8-ranked Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta, 8-6, but it was not enough for the Golden Bears, who lost the other two doubles matches and all six singles matches played. UCLA won 12 of the 13 sets played in singles competition.

Today's match was the final homestand for three Cal seniors: Kuni Minato, Balazs Veress, and Wayne Wong. With the regular season completed, the Golden Bears travel to Ojai, Calif., for the Pac-10 championships April 22-25.
