PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Jason Freeman extended his hitting streak to 14 consecutive games, going 3-for-4 as Southern California came from behind to take the 10-7 victory Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field, in front of 3,153 fans in a Pacific-10 conference baseball game. Saturday's crowd was the fourth largest at WSU since 1989.

Cougar starting pitcher Aaron MacKenzie (5-3) took the loss for WSU (21-13, 3-5 Pac-10), pitching 7.1 innings while allowing eight hits, nine runs, six earned, and striking out four batters.

Clayton Wentworth (3-2) entered the game for USC (18-17, 5-3 Pac-10) in the sixth inning and earned the win by pitching 2.2 innings while striking out four batters. Jon Williams replaced Wentworth, recording the final two outs of the game to earn his first save of the season.

WSU took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs with two doubles. Jay Miller doubled home Freeman and Zach McAngus drove home Miller with a two-base hit down the right-field line.

USC answered WSU's two early runs, scoring three in the second inning for a 3-2 lead. Perales hit a two-run single down the left-field line with the bases loaded to score Frost and Metropoulos. Hankered's ground out to second then allowed Billy Hart to score.

The Trojans added three more runs in the top of the third with three hits. With two runners on, Hart singled up the middle to score Blake Sharpe. Perales then tripled, driving home Frost and Hart, but the Trojan batter was caught off third for the final out.

The Cougs added a third run in the third, to make the score 6-3 when Miller scored on a balk following two walks and a wild pitch.

Freeman, who drove home three of WSU's seven runs, hit a two-run single in the fourth, to cut USC's lead to 6-5, driving home Brandon Reddinger and Justin McClure.

In the sixth Freeman hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Reddinger to score and tie the game at 6-6. Kaeo Rubin, who advanced to third on Freeman's sacrifice, then scored on a passed ball giving WSU the one-run lead.

USC scored four unearned runs in the eighth with two hits to take the victory. With the bases loaded, Jon Brewster reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Joey Metropoulos on a throwing error. Baron Frost also scored on the play. Cyle Hankerd's sacrifice fly scored Daniel Perales and Michael Moon then doubled to drive home Brewster for the final run of the game.

WSU will return to Bailey-Brayton Field Sunday at noon to take on the Trojans for the final game of a three-game conference series.
