Softball Falls To No. 10 Stanford, 4-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The Arizona State softball team (30-21; 0-7 Pac-10) fell to No. 10 Stanford (34-11; 5-4 Pac-10), 4-0, Sunday. The Sun Devils could only manage one hit on the day and were shutout for the fifth straight game.

The Cardinal went ahead 2-0 in the first inning off two hits. Jackie Rinehart singled, stole second and scored when Catalina Morris singled. With Morris now on third, ASU starting pitcher Bre DeSanta (9-9) walked Jessica Allister, Allister then stole second, but ASU tried to cut the play and get Morris coming home to score, but the throw was late as Morris slid under the tag.

Stanford tagged on two more in the sixth for the final 4-0 score. Morris reached on a bunt and scored when Lauren Lappin tripled to right field. Allister followed with a single to right to plate Lappin for the final run.

ASU could only get one hit off Stanford pitcher Dana Sorensen (21-6), a second inning single by Ashley Werschky. DeSanta finished the game, allowing five hits, four runs, three earned with nine strikeouts.

Up next, the Devils continue on the road as they travel to Eugene, Oregon to face the Ducks on Friday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m.
