SOMIS, Calif.- -
The OSU women's golf team is in ninth place after Monday's opening round of the Pac-10 Championships at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif., near Los Angeles. The Beavers posted a team score of 332.
'We had a bad day today,' said head coach Ris Lakowske, 'but it was mostly due to our putting.
'The greens are at speeds similar to that of a U.S. Open or U.S. Amateur and we had trouble with that.'
UCLA, ranked second in the latest Golfweek poll, took the early lead Monday with a score of 308, just one stroke ahead of Washington and two strokes ahead of Stanford. Defending Pac-10 champion California sits in a tie for fourth with USC and Arizona State, four strokes behind UCLA.
Arizona's Erica Blasberg holds the individual lead after one round with a 1-under 71. Blasberg placed third in last year's Pac-10s.
Sophomore Anna Rosvall finished the day with an 88.
Lakowske is confident that the team can adapt to the quick greens.
'We're going to have to adjust to the greens picking up speed, but we're looking for a better day tomorrow.
'Our goal is to catch up to Oregon and stay ahead of WSU and I think we'll be in good shape.'
The second round begins Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
