Blasberg Leads Women's Golf At The Pac-10 Championship

SOMIS, Calif. - The Arizona women's golf team stands in seventh, Monday after its first round of competition at the 2004 Pac-10 Championship in Somis, Calif.
The Wildcats shot a 26-over-par 314 to trail first-round leader, host UCLA by 6 strokes after the Bruins shot a 20-over-par 308. Washington closely trails UCLA in second place after carding a 21-over-par 309. Stanford (310), additionally, one shot behind Washington finished the day in third. Southern California (312), Arizona State (312) and California (312) are all tied for fourth.
Individually, sophomore Erica Blasberg is leading all competition after shooting a first round 71 (-1). The sophomore from Corona, Calif. finished third in last year's Pac-10 Championship.
Junior Mar Garcia and sophomore Cassandra Kirkland are tied for 20th after shooting 7-over-par 79 (Garcia is participating as a individual). Sophomore Lani Elston is tied for 25th at 8-over-par 80. Junior Miriam Kraschinski is tied for 41st place after shooting 12-over-par 84 in round one. While sophomore Whitney Welch shot a 25-over-par 97 to tie for 58th place.
The Wildcats will tee off in Tuesday's second round beginning at 9:30 a.m. PST. The tournament is being held at Saticoy Country Club, par 72 over 6,405 yards.
