Big Innings Aid Loyola Marymount In 11-7 Win

LOS ANGELES - Jonathan Higashi went 4-for-5 with an RBI Tuesday as the Loyola Marymount Lions defeated the USC Trojans, 11-7, in nonconference action at George Page Stadium. The Lions used two big innings for the victory with five runs in the first and four in the eighth.
LMU improved to 23-17-1 on the season while USC fell to 19-19 overall.
Billy Lockin and Brady Koch led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles off USC starter Josh Rummonds (2-2). Higashi's RBI double scored Lockin and wild pitches by Rummonds scored Koch and Higashi. Rummonds allowed four runs in just a third of an inning.
Down 6-0, the Trojans rallied with five runs in the fourth. With runners at first and second, Michael Moon popped up to end the inning.
USC was within a run late in the game, but two Trojan errors led to the four-run eighth for the Lions.
The Trojans host Oregon State in a Pac-10 Conference series, starting on Friday (April 23) at 7 p.m. The series with the Beavers continues on Saturday (April 24) at 2 p.m. and concludes on Sunday (April 25) at noon.
