Big Innings Aid Loyola Marymount In 11-7 Win

LOS ANGELES - Jonathan Higashi went 4-for-5 with an RBI Tuesday as the Loyola Marymount Lions defeated the USC Trojans, 11-7, in nonconference action at George Page Stadium. The Lions used two big innings for the victory with five runs in the first and four in the eighth.

LMU improved to 23-17-1 on the season while USC fell to 19-19 overall.

Billy Lockin and Brady Koch led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles off USC starter Josh Rummonds (2-2). Higashi's RBI double scored Lockin and wild pitches by Rummonds scored Koch and Higashi. Rummonds allowed four runs in just a third of an inning.

Down 6-0, the Trojans rallied with five runs in the fourth. With runners at first and second, Michael Moon popped up to end the inning.

USC was within a run late in the game, but two Trojan errors led to the four-run eighth for the Lions.

Billy Hart and Joey Metropoulos had three hits each for the Trojans while sophomore catcher Jeff Clement hit his seventh home run of the season.

The Trojans host Oregon State in a Pac-10 Conference series, starting on Friday (April 23) at 7 p.m. The series with the Beavers continues on Saturday (April 24) at 2 p.m. and concludes on Sunday (April 25) at noon. All three games will be broadcast live, along with Gametracker live stats, on
