Caitlin Benyi Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week
April 20, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, CA - Bruin sophomore Caitlin Benyi was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for April 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday. Oregon's Ani Nyhus was named the conference Pitcher of the Week.
Benyi hit .600 (6-for-10) in three games against Oregon State and Oregon, including a 1.500 slugging percentage, three walks, a .692 on-base percentage, three home runs, three RBIs and three home runs, one in each game of the weekend series. Benyi has currently homered in four straight games for UCLA, and Benyi homers opened and closed the weekend for the Bruins, as she had a lead-off home run to open weekend play in Friday's win over Oregon State before hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning of UCLA's 3-2 win over Oregon on Sunday. It is Benyi's first career Pac-10 weekly honor.
The Bruins continue the longest homestand of their 2004 schedule with games against Stanford (Friday at 1 pm) and California (Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 1 pm) this weekend at UCLA's Easton Stadium.
