Beavers Finish Up Season At Pac-10 Championships

April 21, 2004

SOMIS, Calif.- - The Oregon State women's golf team concluded its season Wednesday, finishing tenth at the Pac-10 Championships with a team total of 989 at the Saticoy Country Club.

Senior Laura Skinner, playing in her last collegiate tournament, fired a 78 in her final round and finished tied for 43rd with a 246. Skinner closed out the final nine holes in fine fashion with two birdies and three pars on her last five holes.

Sophomore Leah Whiting posted a final-round 80 and a three-round total of 244, leading the Beavers in a tie for 41st.

Freshman Lindsay Eide, playing in her first Pac-10 Championships, finished just one stroke behind Whiting in 45th.

'We were not prepared enough for this golf course,' said head coach Ris Lakowske, referring to the speedy greens.

'Laura played well today in her final round as a Beaver. She had a lot of putts, which accounted for a lot of her score, but she did a good job.

'The other teams just got better as the tournament went on and we weren't able to keep up, which is too bad.'

Second-ranked UCLA (Golfweek) led wire-to-wire to win the team title by 18 strokes over California, winner of last year's Pac-10s. Arizona came in third.

Second-round co-leaders and teammates Charlotte Mayorkas and Hannah Jun of UCLA flipped spots on the final day as Mayorkas carded a 1-over 73 to take home individual medalist honors. Jun finished two strokes back. Mayorkas is UCLA's first individual medalist in 13 years.

Junior Alex Lucio finished in 49th with a 252 and sophomore Anna Rosvall posted a 264 to place 55th.

Lakowske's final thoughts for the season:

'We have a lot of work to do before next season.'
