Bruins in Action at Ojai

Ojai, Calif. - The UCLA men's tennis team had three players advance to the round of 16 of the main draw at the Pac-10 Championships Thursday at Ojai's Libbey Park.
Bruin junior Chris Lam won his first round match, defeating USC's Johan Berg, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. He next defeated Arizona State's Jonathan Kinsella, 6-3, 7-5. Alberto Francis posted a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 decision over Stanford's James Wan, setting up a round of 16 showdown with ASU's Clinton Letcher.
Luben Pampoulov was the other Bruin to win a round Thursday, defeating Cal's Tyler Browne, 6-4, 6-2. He wasn't as fortunate in the next round however, falling to Oregon's Manuel Kost, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
UCLA's Kris Kwinta fell in the first round to Cal's Patrick Briaud, 6-4, 6-4. Kwinta had defeated Briaud by the same score in a dual match back on Apr. 2.
In the Pac-10 Invitational draw, top-seeded Philipp Gruendler had a first-round bye before defeating Arizona's Tim Mullane, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16. Aaron Yovan won two matches Thursday, defeating Washington's Chris Floyd, 6-1, 6-3 and Stanford's Joe Kao, 6-1, 7-5. Sophomore Jason Nguyen opened up the day with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Cal's Jake Leivent. He fell in the next round to Oregon's Aaron Spencer, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6. Sophomore Chris Surapol was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Arizona's Zach Bromberg. He was scheduled to face USC's Parker Collins in the second round.
