Huarte Becomes Cal's First Three-time First Team All-Pac-10 Pick

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Sarah Huarte has been named to the 2004 first team All-Pac-10 squad, becoming the first Golden Bear women's golfer to earn three selections to the first team. Cal sophomore Sophia Sheridan earned second team honors, while sophomore Sofie Andersson received honorable mention recognition.
This season, Huarte leads Cal with a 74.7 stroke average and owns five top 10 finishes. Her best result was a tie for second at The Topy Cup in Japan in September. The Shingle Springs, Calif., product is coming off a tie for 12th at the Pac-10 Championships. As a freshman in 2000-01, she was chosen honorable mention All-Pac-10, distinguishing her as the only Cal women's golfer to achieve All-Pac-10 recognition all four years of her career.
Huarte and Sheridan are ranked 17th and 18th, respectively, this week according to the national Golfweek rankings. Sherdian is second on the team with a career-best 74.9 stroke average. The native of Guadalajara, Mexico, tied for 21st at the Pac-10 Championships and boasts four top 10 finishes this year. She placed second at both the Wildcat Invitational and Longhorn Invitational.
Andersson led the Bears with a ninth-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships, which was her second top 10 showing of the season. She also tied for seventh at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in the fall. Her stroke average of 75.8 is third lowest among Cal golfers. As a freshman at Mississippi State last year, the Angelholm, Sweden, product earned second team All-SEC accolades.
