Cardinal Continue Action At The Pac-10 Tournament

OJAI, Calif. - Junior Sam Warburg continued his impressive play on Friday, advancing to the semifinals of the Pac-10 Individual Tournament. Warburg will look to advance to the finals when he takes on UCLA's Chris Lam on Saturday morning.

Warburg, ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA poll, advanced to the semis with a three-set victory against Bay Area foe, Patrick Briaud of Cal, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.

In the singles invitational draw, senior captain Carter Morris advanced to the semifinals with a straight sets victory over Aaron Spencer of Oregon, 6-0, 6-3. Morris will face UCLA's Philipp Gruendler on Saturday morning.

In doubles action, the tandem of sophomore KC Corkery and James Pade advanced to the semifinals of the doubles main draw with two victories on Friday. In the first round, Corkery and Pade dispatched of Aaron Spencer and Sven Swinnen of Oregon, 8-5, before defeating Daniel Chu and Alex Vlaski of Washington, 8-5 in the quarterfinals. The sophomore duo will look to advance to the finals with a win versus Arizona State's Jonathan Kinsella and Chris Stewart on Saturday. In other doubles main draw action, Morris and Warburg fell to Alex Slovic and Nicholas Weiss of Washington, 9-8 (10).

In doubles invitational play, two Stanford teams played their way into the semifinals. The team of junior Phil Sheng and freshman James Wan received a bye in the first round before defeating Kuni Minato and John Pettit of Cal, 8-2 in the quarterfinals. The freshman team of Eric McKean and Chris Rasmussen slipped by Eric Pickard and Vladmir Pino of Oregon, 9-8 (7-3). In the quarterfinals, McKean and Rasmussen advanced to the semifinals on a walk over injury by Chris Lam and Chris Surapol of UCLA. Sheng and Wan will face Oregon's Thomas Bieri and Chris King in one semifinal and McKean and Rasmussen will face Washington's Chris Floyd and Michael Ricks in the other.

Semifinals in singles action for both the men and women will be played at Libbey Park beginning at 9:30 a.m., while doubles will start at approximately 3:30 p.m.
