Nihan Anaz Earns Second MVP Award

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Nihan Anaz was named the 2003-04 Golden Bear Most Valuable Player at the annual banquet Friday night at the DoubleTree in the Berkeley Marina. In her first season at Cal in 2002-03, Anaz was picked as the team's Co-MVP.
Anaz, a 5-9 guard from Istanbul, Turkey, averaged 14.1 points per game (11th Pac-10) to lead Cal in scoring for the second consecutive season. The first team All-Pac-10 selection also paced the Bears with 53 steals (1.8 spg, 9th Pac-10) and contributed 3.8 rpg and 2.3 apg. Anaz poured in double-figure points in 22 of 29 contests, including a career-high 30 points in Cal's win at Washington State.

Joe and Diane Lewis attended this year's banquet, which paid special tribute to their daughter, Alisa, who died suddenly Jan. 19 from bacterial meningitis. Cal's Most Inspirational Award has been named after Alisa Lewis.
