Sorensen Pitches Four-Hit Shutout Over No. 4 UCLA

Los Angeles, Calif. - Dana Sorensen threw a four-hit shutout as the Stanford softball team defeated No. 4 UCLA, 1-0, this afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif. The Cardinal improve to 35-12 overall, 6-4 in the Pac-10 while the Bruins fall to 29-7, 2-6 in league play.

It was a pitchers dual through five innings as both Dana Sorensen and UCLA's Keira Goerl dominated from the circle.

Jackie Rinehart led off the sixth inning with an infield single to get things going for the Cardinal. Heather Shook walked to put runners on first and second. Catalina Morris hit into a fielder's choice as runners remained on first and second. Lauren Lappin singled to leftfield to bring in Shook and give Stanford the 1-0 lead.

Dana Sorensen (22-7) picked up the win for Stanford, scattering four hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts. Keira Georl took the loss for UCLA, allowing one run on seven hits over seven innings of work with eight strikeouts.

Jackie Rinehart had a 3-for-4 day at the plate while Lauren Lappin went 2-for-3 with the lone RBI. Elizabeth Bendig went 1-for-3 as well. Heather Shook scored Stanford's only run.

The Cardinal now head to Seattle to face No. 6 Washington tomorrow at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. in continued conference action.
