W-GOLF SLIPS TO 12TH AT BIG 12s

Apr 24, 2004

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -   A two and-a-half hour rain delay, followed by an additional hour lightning delay dampened the second round of the Big 12 Championships and dampened the University of Colorado women's golf team's momentum as the Buffs carded a second round 322 and fell to 12th place here Saturday while freshman Hannah Hoch carded a second straight 76 and is in a team best 16th place.

Texas continues to sit a top the leaderboard as the Longhorns have a two-day 292-300-592 and are seven strokes ahead of Texas A&M (599) and defending champion Oklahoma State (606).  Missouri made the biggest first to second round improvement of the tournament as the Tigers were in 10th after Friday's 311, but shaved 13 strokes off their first round score to card a second round best 299 to move up to six with a 36-hole 610.  Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman (69-68-137) moved into first place, seven strokes ahead of Janice Olivencia (72-72-144) and first round leader Perry Swenson (69-76-145) of Texas.

The lone bright spot for the Buffs Saturday, Hoch was just 2-over on both the front and back nine on the 6,242 yard Pebble Creek Country Club course and was the lone Buff to make the loop without a double to card her second straight 76 to improve to 16th.

After blistering the front nine with a 1-over 37, Maria Persson Gulda, who had shot a first round 73, suffered four bogeys and two doubles to slip from seventh place after Friday to 25th today with a 73-81-154.  Allison Rella (83-79-162) shaved four strokes off her first to second round to improve five places on the leaderboard.  Teeing off on 10, she went 6-over on her front nine, and dissected her back nine, including birdies on 16, 17 and 18 to go 1-over on the back for a second round 79, tying a Big 12 best for the junior and is in 49th.

Regina Rodriguez was forced to play from behind from the onset as the freshman doubled four holes on her front nine, but made up room on the back, going 4-over to card a second round 87 and fall to 54th place with a two-round total 164.  Lindsay Koth was even through three holes, +1 through five, but ran into trouble for a second day 86 and sits in a share of 58th place with a 36-hole total 169.

The third, and final, round will be decided Sunday.
