DALLAS - For the second consecutive season University of Colorado student-athlete Kendra Strandemo has been named Big 12 Conference Position Champion, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Strandemo, a junior from Encinitas, Calif., was named the No. 3 singles champion by achieving an 8-3 record against Big 12 competition. Overall, she was 3-0 outside the conference and 11-3 overall for the spring.
During the last month of the spring season, Strandemo won seven of her last eight matches since March 24, including five of six against Big 12 competition.
It's the second position champion honor in as many seasons for Strandemo, who won the conference No. 4 singles position last year.
Colorado begins its postseason this Thursday, April 29 against No. 12 seed Iowa State at the Big 12 Tournament hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman. The Buffaloes are the No. 5 seed after finishing conference play with a 6-5 record, while the Cyclones were winless in the Big 12 at 0-11.
The match begins at 9 a.m. (MDT), with the CU/ISU winner taking on No. 4 Baylor, Friday, April 30 at 11 a.m.
