Three Bruins Designated for U-19 Qualifying

April 28, 2004

CHICAGO - UCLA women's soccer players Stacy Lindstrom (Laguna Niguel, Calif.), Bristyn Davis (Locust Valley, NY) and Stephanie Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) have all been selected to represent the Under-19 U.S. National Team in its bid to qualify for this November's 2004 World Championships. The CONCACAF U-19 Women's Qualifying Tournament will be held from May 28-June 6 in Ottawa and Montreal, Canada.

'We are very proud and excited for this group of players,' said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. 'It's always a wonderful honor to represent your county, but to be able to play for a Under-19 team on a quest to win a World Championship, makes it all the more special. We always make it a priority for our players to have the opportunity to play for their national teams. To see these three achieve this first step is terrific.'

With three players on the qualifying team, UCLA will have more players represented than any other school in the country.

'It was difficult to narrow the roster to 18,' said Under-19 head coach Mark Krikorian. 'I do think we will leave some very talented players behind, but I feel that depth is a strength for us and we are looking forward to getting up there and playing that grueling schedule of games. We know it will be a challenge but we are looking forward to the competition.'

The United States was dominating in its first CONCACAF U-19 qualifying tournament in 2002, outscoring its three opponents 34-1 in Trinidad & Tobago.
