San Diego State Snaps Streak With 10-5 Win Against USC

SAN DIEGO - Curt Mendoza's two-run single in the first capped a six-run inning Monday as the San Diego State Aztecs defeated the USC Trojans, 10-5, in nonconference action at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the win, the Aztecs snap a 13-game losing streak to the Trojans and earn a win for the first time in the series since March 7, 1995, when SDSU won, 12-5.
Bruce Billings (3-1) threw seven innings for the Aztecs, giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out seven with no walks.
San Diego State improves to 25-25 on the season while USC is now 21-24 overall.
Jordan Swaydan and James Guerrero had three hits each for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs scored six runs in the first off USC starter Bobby Paschal (2-8) allowed six runs on three hits. Paschal only retired two batters, walked four and did not record a strikeout.
Schroyer, a transfer from Arizona State, earned his 11th save of the season with two scoreless innings.
Trojan reliever Austin Miller, allowed only one run (unearned) in 4 2/3 innings with a walk and six strikeouts.
The Trojans will take the week off for finals and not return to action on Friday (May 14) for a Pac-10 series at home against Washington. The series starts at 7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday (May 15) at 2 p.m. and Sunday (May 16) at 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live, along with Gametracker live stats, on usctrojans.com.
