Arizona Earns Top-20 Accolades

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona men's tennis team reached the top-20 in the most recent rankings as administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Individually, Sophomore Roger Matalonga earned the No. 77 spot as well as the No. 24-ranking along with partner Colin O'Grady.
After staying idle for one week after the completion of the Pac-10 Championships held in Ojai, Calif., Arizona has gained three spots since finishing the regular season. Arizona has garnered a 14-8 overall record as well as a fifth place finish in the Pac-10 with a 3-4 record in conference play.
Individually for the Cats, Matalonga gained three places, as he moved from No. 80 to the No. 77 slot. This marks the highest ranking for the sophomore from Terrassa, Spain, who improved his personal best marks three times this spring. Matalonga first entered the rankings in 2003 when he earned the No. 123T-ranking.
In doubles, Matalonga and O'Grady lost a position this week, as they fell from No. 23 to No. 24. The tandem has earned a 16-9 overall and a 6-8 record in Pac-10 competition this spring.
The Wildcats wait the seeding for the NCAA Championships, which are announced May 5 at 1:00 p.m. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships are on May 13 and 14.
