Bercek, Carleton Earn All-Pac-10 Honors

LOS ANGELES - Following a vote by Conference coaches, UCLA women's tennis players Daniel Bercek and Jackie Carleton both earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors Wednesday. In addition, Bercek was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.

Bercek, a newcomer from Nov Sad, Serbia and Montenegro, joined the team in January and currently plays at the No. 1 position. She is ranked No. 31 nationally with a 21-5 overall record. She becomes the third UCLA player in the last five years to earn Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors, following Sara Walker in 2000 and Megan Bradley in 2002.

Carleton, a sophomore from Jenkintown, Pa., was also named to the Pac-10's second-team as a freshman in 2003. She is currently ranked No. 18 in the country in singles, owning a 19-15 overall record. She has played a majority of her matches at the No. 1 position and currently plays at the No. 2 spot.
