Lele Forood Named Pac-10 Coach of the Year

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford head women's tennis coach Lele Forood has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Coach of the Year as voted on by the league's coaches. This season, Forood has guided the No. 1-ranked Cardinal to a perfect 23-0 overall record.
Forood, the 2003 Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year, entered her fourth year at Stanford after serving a three-season tenure that boasted two NCAA team titles and one runner-up finish, and an 82-3 overall record. This season, the Cardinal claimed its 17th-straight Pac-10 team title.
The top-ranked Stanford duo of Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette earned Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year honors for the second-straight season. The pair has tallied a 27-2 overall and 20-1 dual record at the No. 1 spot this season.
Sophomores Alice Barnes and Amber Liu garnered First-Team All-Pac-10 honors, while junior Burdette was named Second-Team All-Pac-10. Senior Barnikow and freshman Theresa Logar earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors.
Barnes, ranked No. 10 in the ITA singles rankings, has tallied a 33-6 overall record, including a 22-1 record in dual action primarily at the No. 2 spot. The Cambridge, U.K. native took second place at the Pac-10 Individual Tournament.
Liu, the 2003 NCAA Singles Champion, hails from La Mesa, Calif. She is currently ranked No. 7 in the ITA singles rankings and boasts a 15-4 overall and dual singles record at the No. 1 spot. Liu has posted a 10-4 record vs. ranked opponents this year.
In singles, Burdette has posted a 23-4 overall record and 17-2 dual record. She is ranked No. 23 in the ITA singles rankings and is from Jackson, Ga. Burdette took the Pac-10 Tournament doubles title with partner Barnes, competing together for the first time this season.
Barnikow, from Woodbridge, N.J., is ranked No. 56 in the ITA singles rankings. She boasts a 31-4 overall record, including a perfect 23-0 dual record. Barnikow tallied 26-straight wins from Jan. 17-March 17 and claimed third place in the top flight of Pac-10 Indoor Championships.
