No. 20 Arizona Heads to Gainesville, Fla., for NCAA Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 20 Arizona men's tennis team earned a second seed for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships. Arizona will face No. 48 Florida State in the first round. Also competing in Gainesville are the host team No. 8 Florida and No. 71 Central Florida. This selection into the NCAA Regional marks the third time in four years the Wildcats have made it to the NCAA Tournament.
In the first round of the competition, Arizona will face the No. 48 Florida State. This will be the first dual match in the two schools' history. Arizona faced a common opponent, Clemson Tigers on March 21. Arizona defeated Clemson , 6-1, in Tucson, Ariz. Leading the way for the Seminoles is No. 27-ranked Mat Cloer. Cloer has earned a 21-11 overall record as well as 6-2 record in ACC play. Jonathas Sucupira earned the No. 106-ranking and a 17-9 overall and 4-1 ACC record. Playing No. 1 doubles for FSU is the team of Jeff Groslimond and Chris Westerhof. The tandem has earned a 26-9 overall record as well as 6-2 in ACC play. The Seminoles enter the NCAA Regional Championships on a six-match losing streak. FSU last won on March 21 against No. 4 Duke, 4-3. Against ranked opponents Florida State finished the season with a 6-10 mark.
