May 5, 2004
WESTWOOD, Calif.- Kathy Fiske's solo home run in the fifth inning proved to be all the scoring Washington would need as the Huskies defeated No. 3 UCLA, 1-0 this afternoon at Easton Stadium. The sixth-ranked Huskies improve to 9-5 in the Pac-10 and 35-12 overall, while the Bruins drop to 7-7 in the Pac-10 and 34-8 overall.
Fiske's leadoff home run in the fifth inning came on a 0-2 pitch and just cleared the right-center wall. It was the first and last hit of the day for Washington as UCLA hurler Kiera Goerl (20-6) tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10. The hit also marked the 100th career RBI for Fiske who now enters UW top 10 list.
Junior Ashley Boek (24-7) earned the win for the Huskies as she scattered six hits, walked five and struck out two.
Washington sweeps the series with UCLA for the first time since going to the three-game series in 1999.
The Huskies return to action Friday, May 7 when they take on Stanford at 7 p.m. in Palo Alto, Calif.
