Challenge of Atlas and Athena

Berkeley, Calif. - The first day of the second annual Challenge of Atlas and Athena ended today with Cal volunteer assistant coach Phil McMullen ahead with 3,923 points. The Nike Team member already holds an 'A' standard for the Olympics. He is followed by Virginia Intermont decathlete Andrew Whitson with 3,296 points. Former college football standout Avery Anderson had to pull out of the meet after three events due to injury. The Atlas battle continues tomorrow at Edwards Stadium with the 110 meter hurdles at 11:15 am.

The Golden Bears are in action elsewhere this weekend at the Pac-10 Multi Championships (Friday-Saturday) and the Modesto Relays (Saturday).
