Arizona Men's Tennis Receives Post Season Accolades

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 20 Arizona men's tennis received two post-season acknowledgements this week. Sophomore Roger Matalonga earned All-Pac-10 honors as well as a trip to the NCAA Doubles Tournament with partner junior Colin O'Grady.
Matalonga, a sophomore from Terrassa, Spain, earned Second Team All-Pac-10 honors for his individual accomplishments this spring. Matalonga is 23-10 overall, 18-7 this spring and 7-7 in the Pac-10. He has notched several impressive victories including wins over No. 18 Chris Lam of UCLA, 7-6 (5), 6-2, and No. 25 Adriano Biasella of USC, 6-2, 6-0. He has been consistently ranked by ITA all season and has competed in the No. 1 spot for the Wildcats during the last 14 matches of the season, during which time he has accumulated a 7-7 record. His highest ranking to date is the No. 64 position, which he earned on April 6 of this year. Currently he finds himself ranked No. 77.
In addition to his All-Pac-10 accolade, Matalonga and doubles partner Colin O'Grady will compete in the NCAA Doubles Tournament. The No. 24-ranked team will compete in the 32-team field in Tulsa, Okla., starting May 26 after the completion of the NCAA Team Championships. The pair is 16-9 overall this season and have competed in the No. 1 spot for the majority of the season. The team found itself as the most consistent for the Wildcats this season, playing in all but one match together this spring. The pair has also earned a 6-8 Pac-10 mark. The pair is 7-7 in the No. 1 position as well as 7-0 in the No. 2 slot. The tandem found themselves ranked No. 15 in the final fall rankings as well as No. 23 during the April 27 rankings.
The Wildcats will hit the courts again on May 15, as they compete in the first round of the NCAA Team Championships in the No. 7-seeded region in Gainesville, Fla.
