Husky Trio Selected To Compete In NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship

SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington seniors Claire Carter and Erin Hoe, as well as junior Dea Sumantri have been selected to compete as individuals in the singles and doubles portions of the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, held May 24-29, in Athens, Ga.
The trio was selected as at-large qualifiers from the West Region for the singles competition, while Carter and Sumantri were at-large qualifiers for doubles.
Carter, a three-time All-American, is making her second singles appearance and third doubles appearance at the NCAA Individual Championships. As a freshman she advanced to the Sweet in 16 in singles, and as a sophomore, made it to the quarterfinals in doubles with partner Darija Klaic. Sumantri, a 2003 All-American, is making her second-straight singles appearance and first-ever doubles trip. Last year, Sumantri advanced to the singles Sweet 16. Hoe is competing in the NCAA Individual Championship for the first time in her career.
As a team, the Huskies are making their eighth-straight postseason appearance and will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships May 15-16. UW will face Fairfield in the opening round, Saturday, May 15, at 2 p.m. Should the Huskies advance, they would play the winner of New Mexico vs. Oregon, Sunday, May 16, at noon for the right to advance to the 16-team finals in Athens beginning May 20.
