Bears Score At Pac-10 Multis

May 8, 2004

Tucson, Ariz. - Junior Brooke Meredith finished second in the heptathlon at the Pac-10 Multi-Championships tonight with 5,476 points to score eight points for the Golden Bears. Cal sophomore Scott Sobieralski finished sixth in the decathlon with 7,215 points to score three team points.

Meredith was second only to Jackie Johnson of Arizona State who finished with 5,603 points. The competition between the two will continue at next month's NCAA Championships.

'Brooke actually struggled a little bit. She felt under the weather going in, but put up a good performance with the way she felt, so I think she will do much better at NCAAs,' Cal multi-events coach Ed Miller said.

Sobieralski set personal records in both the javelin and the pole vault today for a total of five personal records in the ten decathlon events at this Pac-10 Multi-Championships. The sophomore vaulted 16-00.75 (4.90m) and threw the javelin 172-10 (52.69m).

'For the experience he has, Scott has done a great job scoring three points for us (as a team). He definitely got his feet wet,' Miller said.

With the conclusion of the multi-events, the Pac-10 Championships continue next weekend in Tucson, Ariz.
