Men's Soccer Ends Spring Season With 4-1-3 Record

SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington men's soccer recently wrapped up its 2004 spring schedule, with the Huskies recording an overall record of 4-1-3. In their last three games on the slate, the Huskies defeated Western Washington 3-0, while battling to a 0-0 tie with Portland and a 1-1 tie with the A-League Portland Timbers.
Washington exploded for three goals versus Western on April 10, led by a pair from Kevin Forrest. Leo Totev sealed the win with the third goal of the game, while Chris Eylander recorded the shutout. Eylander picked up his second straight shutout in UW's scoreless battle with Portland on April 17, giving him his fourth shutout of the spring. It was first-team All-American C.J. Klaas who scored the lone goal for the Huskies against the Portland Timbers on April 24.
Washington's only loss of the spring was a 2-1 defeat to the Seattle Sounders on March 13. In all, the Huskies had a successful spring, with 11 different players contributing either a goal or assist in eight games. Forrest and Wiesner led the team with three goals each, while Klaas and Mike Chabala each added three assists.
The Huskies' other wins came against Trinity Western (2-1), UW Alumni (3-0) and Portland (1-0). UW also tied Gonzaga (1-1).
The next time Washington returns to the pitch will be for an exhibition contest versus Seattle Pacific on Aug. 23, in Interbay, Wash. The Huskies will open the 2004 season Wed., Sept. 1, versus Gonzaga in Spokane. Washington is coming off its best ever showing at the NCAA Championship, advancing as far as the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history last year.
