PAC-10 PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK: UCLA's Benyi and Arizona's Hollowell

UCLA sophomore Caitlin Benyi has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and ARIZONA sophomore Alicia Hollowell has been named Pitcher of the Week for May 4-10.

Benyi, from Scottsdale, Ariz., hit .600 for the week, going 9-for-15 in UCLA's four games. She had multiple hits in each of UCLA's games, totaling nine hits, five RBI, four runs scored along with a 1.400 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. Benyi also was perfect defensively on 15 chances (eight put-outs and seven assists). Of her nine hits on the week six were for extra bases, including three doubles and three home runs. She capped off her week with a 3-for-4 performance on May 9 at No. 7 Stanford, where she tied a season-high with two home runs and had four RBI.

Hollowell, from Suisun, Calif., earns her fifth Pitcher of the Week award this season after a dominating performance in Arizona's final three home games of the season. Hollowell was 3-0 over the weekend, picking up three complete-game victories against Top-20 teams. Against No. 12 Oregon on May 7, Hollowell pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out nine batters in a 6-0 Wildcat win. A day later, against No. 19 Oregon State, she threw a three-hit shutout, striking out 11 Beavers. On May 9, she again struck out 11 batters and allowed only three hits to a Beaver squad that is second in the Pac-10 in hits. The 3-0 victory clinched the second consecutive Pac-10 title for the Wildcats, their eighth overall.

This is the second weekly honor for Benyi, and the 80th all-time for UCLA. Hollowell has won the award ten times in two years putting her in a tie for third all-time in the Pac-10. It is the 91st time a Wildcat has been honored.

The Huskies host No. 1 Arizona on Saturday... Because of a rainout Washington has not played a Pac-10 game against Arizona this season. However, the Dawgs did beat the 'Cats 7-6 in a non-Conference contest on Mar. 21... Washington defeated UCLA 1-0 on May 5 and swept the season series with the Bruins for the first time in school history... Senior Kristen Rivera has a legitimate chance to hit .400 (currently hitting .398), and will also be the first Husky to lead the team in batting in back-to-back years since Sara Pickering did it in 1996-97...
