What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University women's rowing team travels to Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova Calif., to compete in the 18th annual Pacific-10 Conference Rowing Championships Sunday, May 16.

Schedule and Seedings for Pac 10 Championships: Races begin at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, with the first heat of the women's novice eight competition...the afternoon finals are slated to begin at approximately 12:50 p.m...all races are 2,000 meters in length...the Cougars' varsity eight is seeded third while the second varsity eight is seeded second and the varsity four and novice eight are seeded fourth...the complete schedule and seedings list can be found on the Pac-10 website ( and the Sacramento State University Aquatics Center website (

The Competitors: Eight Pacific-10 institutions will compete - California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington and Washington State...other West Coast institutions competing include UC Davis, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, San Diego State, Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara, Southern Oregon and Gonzaga.

Scoring: The Pac-10 women's rowing champion is determined by the order of finish of the crews in the following events: women's varsity eight, women's second varsity eight, women's novice eight and women's varsity four.

WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the Pac-10 Championships: 'We are having good practices and we're excited to go see where we are at relative to all the Pac-10 schools. Our best performance is going to be pretty competitive. We just have to make sure we have it on the right day. I think we just have to go do what we are capable of doing. We are in a nice situation. The athletes are enjoying themselves right now. They are motivated.'

NCAA Championships: The eighth annual NCAA Women's Rowing Championships will be held Friday, May 28 through Sunday, May 30 at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova Calif...selections to the NCAA Championships will be announced Tuesday, May 18.

Varsity Eight No. 12 in Latest Poll: The Cougars are No. 12 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll...WSU is one of four Pacific-10 Conference teams in the poll... California (No. 1), Washington (No. 9), and USC (No. 15 ) complete the quartet...also in the poll is Tennessee at No. 13, whom the Cougars defeated at Wawawai Landing, April 24.

What Happened Last Year at Pac-10s: The Cougars posted a fourth place finish at last year's conference championships...varsity eight finished third in its Grand Final as well as the Cougars' varsity four...Cougars' second varsity eight boat placed fourth and the novice eight squad finished fifth.

Cougars Coming Off Historic 2003 Season: WSU experienced a memorable 2003 season as the Cougars earned their first team bid to the NCAA Championships...Cougars finished 12th at the NCAAs headed by a top 10 finish from the varsity four...varsity eight led the Cougars at the Pac-10 Championships with a third place effort...novice eight achieved success as well by winning the San Diego Crew Classic for the second consecutive year.
