Stanford Shuts Out Quinnipiac 4-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 2-seeded Stanford women's tennis team tallied its first win in the 2004 NCAA Championship with a 4-0 shutout of Quinnipiac in the first round of the West region at Taube Tennis Center on Friday. The win extends the Cardinal's perfect record to 24-0 this season.
The Stanford pair of Emilia Anderson and Anne Yelsey, ranked No. 56 by the ITA, notched the Cardinal's first win of the day with an 8-2 victory over Bobcats Liz Axler and Katherine Ehle. Alice Barnes and Amber Liu clinched the doubles point for Stanford with an 8-2 win over duo Tina Hoang and Danielle Rautenberg.
The Cardinal continued to dominate in singles action to lead to their 15th shutout this season. Freshman Theresa Logar was first off the court with a straight-set win over Axler (6-1, 6-0) to remain undefeated 24-0 in dual action this year.
No. 7-ranked Liu didn't give up a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Quinnipiac's Kim Piazza. Barnes clinched the Stanford victory with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Gabby Pasternak.
Top-ranked Stanford will take on No. 26 Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 15, at 3 p.m. at Taube Tennis Center.
