Sara Bei Wins 5,000 Meter Pac-10 Title

Tucson, Az - Sara Bei led a 1-2-3 finish in the 5,000 meters to help the Stanford women's track & field team finish second in the team competition on Saturday at the Pacific-10 Men's and Women's Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium at the University of Arizona.

Bei became Stanford's third Pac-10 champion during the two-day competition with a time of 16:35.39. Alicia Craig, who a night earlier had won the 10,000 meter league title, finished second (16:35.40) while Arianna Lambie, who finished second in the 1,500 meters earlier in the evening, finished third (16:44.30). Along with Kathleen Trotter's fifth place finish, the four Cardinal runners gave Stanford 28 points in the 5,000 meters. The Cardinal finished the competition with a school record 153 points. UCLA won the Pac-10 championship for an eighth straight season with 174.50 points.

Sophomore Nashonme Johnson set a school record for a second straight day in the 400 meter finals with a time of 52.40 to finish fourth. Friday night in the prelims, Johnson ran a then school record 52.96. The women's 400 meter relay team finished third in the finals, but set a school record in the process at 44.18. Freshman Janice Davis ran the third fastest time in school history in the 200 meter finals with a time of 23.64 to finish fifth. Teammate Christine Moschella ran a career-best 23.77, the fourth-best time in school history. Undine Becker set a personal best in the triple jump with a fourth place effort of 41-0 1/2 (12.51m). Becker's mark was third-best in school history.

On the men's side, Stanley Wilson, who only recently joined the track & field team after completing spring drills in football, ran the third-fastest time in school history in the 100 meters with a fifth place finish of 10.46. Stanford's men's team placed fifth with 76 points. UCLA won with 143 points.
