Dan Ames Named USTCA Male Athlete of the Week

May 18, 2004 -- The United States Track Coaches Association (USTCA) announced that Dan Ames of UCLA and Hyleas Fountain of Georgia have been selected as the Athletes of the Week for NCAA Division I track & field.
Senior Dan Ames became the first athlete in the history of the throwing events to win three individual titles at one Pac-10 Championship meet. While also leading the Bruins to the Pac-10 Championship team title, Ames got things started on Friday in the shot put as he defended his conference title by winning with a throw of 65-00 (19.81m). The final day of action on Saturday saw Ames winning the hammer throw with a mark of 210-8 (64.21m). Later in the day, he completed the Pac-10 Championship trifecta by winning the discus throw 185-11 (56.67m). The Lakeside, California native is qualified in the shot put, discus and hammer throw for the NCAA West Regional on May 28-29 hosted by Cal State Northridge.
