Men's Golf Prepares For NCAA West Regional

Stanford Heads To Oregon For NCAA West Regional: The Stanford men's golf team travels to Sunriver, Oregon, for the 2004 NCAA Men's Golf West Regional, May 20-22 at the Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort. The Cardinal have been tabbed as the 16th seed. Play begins with 18 holes on Thursday, May 20, beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the first and 10th tees and concludes on Saturday, May 22, with the final round beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
Three regional tournaments, encompassing the current nine regions, will be conducted. A total of 27 teams and six individuals have been selected for each regional competition with 10 teams and two individuals advancing from each regional to the championships finals.
West Regional Participants: UCLA, Arizona State, Arizona, Southern California, Brigham Young, California, UNLV, Washington, New Mexico, Pepperdine, Colorado State, Toledo, UTEP, UCF, San Diego State, Stanford, North Carolina-Wilmington, Furman, Denver, New Mexico State, , UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Coastal Carolina, Long Beach State, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola (Maryland) and Wright State. Individuals are: Matt Kodama, Hawaii; Travis Bertoni, Cal Poly; Graham DeLaet, Boise State; Chad Spencer, Fresno State; Joe Lanza, St. Mary's (California) and Garrett Clegg, Utah.
Last Year: Stanford tied for 15th at last year's West Regional, carding a three-round score of 901 (316-298-287). Kevin Blue led the Cardinal, tying for 36th with a 222, followed by Blake Mastatlir who tied for 67th (226). George Downing tied for 78th (229) while Ron Won tied for 98th (232). Jim Seki tied for 106th (234). UCLA won the event (864) while New Mexico's Michael Letzig took top individual honors (208).
Last Time Out: The Stanford men's golf team finished a disappointing 10th at the Pac-10 Championships with a four-round score of 1,562. Kevin Blue tied for 37th (306) and Kyle Gentry tied for 42nd (309). Blake Mastalir tied for 51st (315) while Brandon Lawson placed 54th (318). Zack Miller finished 55th (319) and Scott MacDonald was 58th 326).
Tee Times: Stanford will be playing with North Carolina-Wilmington and Furman for the first and second rounds. The Cardinal will tee off from the first tee beginning at 8:12 a.m. on Thursday, May 20. On Friday, May 21, Stanford will begin teeing off from the 10th tee at 12:15 p.m.
