CRUNCH TIME!
With two weeks left before the postseason begins, there is no other way to describe the last two weeks of Pac-10 play, other than crunch time. Up a half of a game, will Washington hold on to first place for its first Conference title since consolidation of the Pac-10 North and South? Will Stanford win the Pac-10 for its fourth league crown in six years? Can Oregon State, Arizona, or USC make a final push for Regionals?... All will begin to be determined as this week No. 19 ARIZONA STATE will face rival ARIZONA in Tucson, No. 1 STANFORD is back at Sunken Diamond to host USC, UCLA will play only its second Conference away series at No. 14 WASHINGTON, and WASHINGTON STATE will start its six-game homestand by entertaining OREGON STATE... 2004 PAC-10 TEAM NOTES
Arizona
- Arizona became just the second team of the season to take a series against No. 1 Stanford, two games to one... The Wildcats are now 4-1 in their last five... The Wildcats racked up 39 runs on the Cardinal, the most given up by Stanford in a three-game series this season...SO RHP John Meloan upped his record to 6-0 by allowing only two runs while striking out seven in eight innings of work in the 11-2 win on May 17... Pac-10 Player of the Week, SO OF Trevor Crowe put on a show this weekend, going 7-for-12 (.583) with two doubles, three triples, a homer and nine RBI... Out of Arizona's 21 losses, 13 of them have come by two runs or less.

Arizona State- After a three-game sweep of the Beavers, the Sun Devils now will finish their season with an eight-game roadtrip, looking to build on their 8-2 away record... ASU has been hot as of recently, winning its last seven consecutive games...The Sun Devils are 9-1 in their last 10, 12-2 in their last 14... After pitching 8.1 innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts, JR RHP Jason Urquidez picked up his 10th win of the season, tying him for the Conference lead in that category... SR 2B Nick Walsh went 5-for-8 (.625) against the Beavers this weekend bringing his season average to .361, second-best on the ASU squad.

California- Cal will conclude its season on May 28 with a final three-game series at Washington State.... In two losses to San Diego St. and San Diego, JR INF David Nicholson was 4-for-8 (.500)... Nicholson now leads the Bears with a .378 batting average, 49 runs and 14 doubles... SR CF David Weiner is currently on a 10-game hitting streak dating back to Apr. 20... he leads the team with eight home runs and 41 RBI.

Oregon State- With the series loss to Arizona State, the Beavers fall to 1-8 against the Sun Devils over the last three years... It was the first time an opponent had swept OSU this season and put the Beavers in a six-game losing slump... With eight games left to play, Oregon State's 28 wins surpasses last season's total of 25 and its seven Conference wins ties last years total with six Pac-10 games left to play... OSU is 20-2 when outhitting its opponent.... SO OF Jacoby Ellsbury hit .583 (7-for-12) against ASU this weekend, collecting his league leading 20th stolen base.

Stanford- The Cardinal once again overtook the consensus No. 1 ranking this week in the national polls... The back-to-back losses to Arizona are the first consecutive losses for Stanford this season... In the 19-18 loss at Arizona on May 16, Stanford combined to hit six home runs in the game... It was the first game that Stanford had scored double-digits and lost all season... Stanford's home run season total now stands at 84, just 18 off the single-season record of 102 set in 1997... In the 11-9 win over Arizona on May 15, SO LHP Mark Romanczuk picked up his 10th win of the season, he is now tied for the Pac-10 lead in wins... Cardinal players hold four of the top six places for homers this season, including the top three totals.

UCLA- The Bruins finish their eight-game homestand this week and are currently 4-3 through the first seven games of their home stay... Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, JR P/1B Wes Whisler had a strong weekend, pitching a complete game shutout on May 16 versus Washington State, scattering seven hits while allowing no runs and striking out three... Whisler also went 9-for-18 at the plate (.500) with a team best seven RBI and 13 total bases With the 8-2 win over now No. 22 Cal State Fullerton on May 11, UCLA swept the season series against the Titans, for the first time since 1991.

USC- The Trojans snapped their season-high five-game losing streak with a 10-8 win over Washington this weekend on May 16... This weekend, SR INF Michael Moon went 5-for-10 against the Huskies (.500) with a home run (7) and five RBI... Head coach Mike Gillespie needs only five more wins to reach career-win number 700 and just two Pac-10 wins to get to the 300 mark.

Washington- The Dawgs are now 14-3 in their last 17 games and have taken over first place in the Pac-10 for the first time this year... After throwing five strikeouts in five innings of work on May 16 at USC, FR RHP Tim Lincecum now has a Pac-10 leading 134 strikeouts, the most in Washington single-season history passing Jeff Heaverlo's 131 set in 1999... With the 5-1 win over Portland on May 12, the Huskies have now won 10 consecutive games against Portland... Head Coach Ken Knutson needs only two more wins to become the all-time winningest coach at Washington, he currently has 421 wins, and trails past Husky skipper Bob MacDonald who won 422 at the helm of UW.

Washington State- The Cougars return to the Palouse for the rest of the season with an away game at nearby Lewis and Clark State and a six-game homestand versus Oregon State and California... JR INF Grant Richardson's 26 career home runs ties him for 10th on the all-time Cougar list... JR 2B Jason Freeman is hitting .353 this season with a .417 average through 18 Pac-10 contests.. JR OF Kaeo Rubin leads the Cougars and is also among the top-10 in the league in on base percentage (.468-seventh), runs scored (58-third) and doubles (15-fifth).

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GRADUATE- Current Chicago Cub and former USC pitching ace Mark Prior, received hs bachelor's degree in business from USC's Marshall School of Business last week. After being drafted in 2001 as a junior, Prior has spent the past three off-seasons finishing his undergraduate classes. In 2001, Prior set a school and Pac-10 record with 202 strikeouts in a season, on his way to winning the Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur baseball player in the country.

DICK HOWSER TROPHY SEMIFINALISTS- Arizona State JR SS Dustin Pedroia and Stanford SO 2B Jed Lowrie are two of 30 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy. The award given in memory of the former Florida State University shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987, uses the criteriea of performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage in deciding the winner. The award will be announced in Omaha on Friday, June 18, at 9:30 A.M. CDT.

FRESHMEN FAN 100- Two pitchers have reached the 100 strikeout milestone this season, both are freshman. FR RHP Tim Lincecum leads the league with 134 strikeouts while USC FR RHP Ian Kennedy has notched 107 K's. If Lincecum or Kennedy finishes the season with the lead, they will be the first freshman ever to lead the Pac-10 season in strikeouts. However, in 1977 when the Conference was known as the Pac-8, USC freshman Bill Bordley lead the league with 108 strikeouts. Also, in 1995, Stanford freshman Kyle Peterson tied for the strikeout lead in the Pac-10 South with 112, but was still behind Pac-10 North leader, Gonzaga's Darin Blood who had 145 strikeouts.

64-Team NCAA Tournament Field Announced: Monday, May 31, at 11 A.M. CT, Live on ESPN2*

Regional Dates: Teams will play from June 4- 6. Winners from 16 Regional sites will advance to the Super Regional.

Super Regionals
Super Regional On-Campus Sites Announced: Sunday, June 6, during the 10 P.M. CT Sports Center telecast, Live on ESPN*

Super Regional Dates: Teams will play a best of three-game series starting on either Friday, June 11, or Saturday, June 12, and going until Sunday, June 13, or Monday, June 14, if a third game is needed. Winners of the eight Super Regionals will play in The 58th College World Series held in Omaha, Neb.

College World Series
College World Series Game Times to Announced: Monday, June 14, at 7 P.M. CT.

College World Series Dates: Teams that played in the Friday-Sunday Super Regional will begin play in Omaha Friday, June 18, and teams that played the Saturday- Monday Super Regional will begin play on Saturday, June 19.
