May 19, 2004
After a heartbreaking loss to Washington in the Pac-10 grand final, Cal's varsity eight remains at No. 4 in the final USRowing poll of the season. Harvard has been at the top spot the entire season and will look to defend its national title at this years IRAs. Washington moved up one spot to No. 2 after its win at the Pac-10s.
Up Next: The Golden Bears head back to practice in preperation for the upcoming IRAs, which will be held June 3-5 in Cherry Hill, N.J. Last year the Bears finished third in the varsity eight behind Harvard and Washington. The second varsity eight is the defending champion. But it will be up against a tough Washington team, which has beaten Cal in all three meetings this season, and a very fast Harvard team. The freshman eight placed second in last year's regatta but will try to finish its season undefeated and win its first national title since 2001.
