Eight Softball Bruins Earn All-Pac-10 Recognition

WALNUT CREEK, CA - Eight members of the defending NCAA Champion UCLA softball team were recognized by the Pac-10 for All-Conference notice, it was announced by Commissioner Tom Hansen on Wednesday.

Senior CF Stephanie Ramos and sophomore 2B/RF Caitlin Benyi earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors. Ramos is having the best offesnive season of her UCLA career, and Benyi is leading the Pac-10 in home runs and is second in the nation in home runs per game.

Senior pitcher Keira Goerl, senior 1B Claire Sua and freshman SS Jodie Legaspi have been selected to the All-Pac-10 second team. Goerl has recorded several milestones this season, becoming the first UCLA pitcher in history to record 100 career victories and 1,000 career strikeouts. Sua hit over .400 this season against Pac-10 opponents, and Legaspi is UCLA's top hitter among its eight-player freshman class. Legaspi is third on the team in batting average for the season.

Three additional Bruins, sophomores Andrea Duran (3B) and Emily Zaplatosch (C) along with freshman P/2B/RF Lisa Dodd earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 notice.

The Bruins begin defense of their NCAA title tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 pm against Mississippi Valley State. UCLA is the top seeded team in the Los Angeles Regional, which is the second-seeded regional for the entire 64-team field. NCAA Regional play begins on Thursday at 9 am at UCLA's Easton Stadium.
