Former Husky Loree Payne Named Grad Assistant Coach At Portland

PORTLAND - Former Washington women's basketball standout Loree Payne has been named graduate assistant for the University of Portland women's basketball team, Pilot head coach Jim Sollars announced on May 6. Her primary responsibilities will include on-court fundamentals, scouting and recruiting.

Payne heads to Portland after spending the last season as an assistant coach at Northwest Nazarene University. While coaching, she will pursue her master's degree in education at Portland.

Payne was a 2003 Washington graduate and a three-year team captain for the Huskies. She was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 performer and was also a two-time first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree as well. As a senior in 2002-03, Payne became Washington's all-time leader in three-pointers made (245) and attempted (732). She was also the 17th UW player to reach the 1,000-point scoring plateau and ranks seventh on Washington's career scoring list with 1,675 points.
