Husky Men Start NCAA Golf Play at West Regional

Seattle - The 24th-ranked Washington men's golf team begins its quest for a sixth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships when the team opens play at the NCAA West Regional Thursday. This year's event is being held at the Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Bend, Ore. The Huskies are the No. 8 seed in the 27-team field. The top 10 finishers from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 at The Homestead in Hot Spring, Va. Live scoring will be available for all three regional at www.golfstat.com
The NCAA West Regional features 54 holes of stroke play golf over three days. During the first round of play, Washington will tee off starting at noon from the first tee. The Huskies return to the course Friday morning from the 10th tee starting at 8:57 a.m. The Huskies are paired up with UNLV and New Mexico during the first two rounds. Tee times for the final round of the tournament will be determined by results.
Washington tied for seventh at the 2003 NCAA West Regional which the Huskies hosted at Washington National Golf Club. The Huskies shot 880 and finished 16 strokes behind UCLA. Brock Mackenzie placed six overall at 2-under 214. He had rounds of 74, 72 and 68. Dan Potter, the only other current Husky who competed at last year's regional was 22nd at 3-over 219.
