Vanessa Iapala Earns Prestigious First Team All-Pacific Region Honors

May 19, 2004

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Oregon State University sophomore first baseman Vanessa Iapala earned first team All-Pacific Region softball honors, as was announced on Wednesday by the NFCA and Louisville Slugger. Iapala is just the third player in OSU history to earn the prestigious first team All-Pacific Region accolades (2003 grad Brynnen Guthrie and four-time All-American Tarrah Beyster are the others), and is now eligible to become an All-American.

Iapala, from San Diego, CA, earned second team All-Pacific-10 Conference accolades earlier in the day. Iapala has led the Beavers throughout the season in multiple offensive categories. She boasts a team-best .349 batting average, 68 hits, 44 RBI and 14 doubles, and needs just five more RBI to break the Oregon State single season mark.

Iapala earned Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week honors for March 10-16 and as a sophomore, already ranks in the OSU career Top 10 in three different batting categories (RBI, doubles, home runs).

Oregon State will face Bowling Green State University on Thursday at 7 a.m. PDT, in the opening day of the NCAA Regional Tournament played in Ann Arbor, MI.
