Washington Softball Lands Two On All-Pacific-Region Teams

SEATTLE- Washington catcher Kristen Rivera and second baseman Dominique Lastrapes were named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Pacific-Region teams, it was announced today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Rivera, a junior from Perris, Calif., was a first team selection for the second-straight year. She ranks among the top five in the Pac-10 in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, home runs, total bases and walks. Her 58 career home runs rank seventh all-time in the Pac-10. Rivera is a two-time All-American and has been a top 10 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year each of the last two seasons. She was also named Pac-10 Player of the Year and an all-conference selection earlier today.
Lastrapes, a freshman from Laguna Hills, Calif., was a second team selection. She leads the team with 62 hits, while ranking second with a .346 average, 35 runs scored and nine doubles. Lastrapes opened her collegiate career with an 11 game hitting streak and has hit safely in 38 or 53 games this season. She leads the team with 19 multiple hit games and seven game-winning runs.
Rivera and Lastrapes are now eligible for the All-America award. The Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 26 at the opening ceremonies of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Washington opens the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed at the No. 8 Regional in Athens, Ga. The Huskies will face No. 8 seed Chattanooga on Thursday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. (PST).
