Eldredge, Thorson Lead All-Pac-10 Selections

May 20, 2004

BERKELEY - Junior CF Kaleo Eldredge and sophomore P Kristina Thorson were voted to the first team All-Pac-10 softball squad, the conference office announced Wednesday.

'It's a great showing for our program and a great recognition of our players' hard work,' Cal head coach Diane Ninemire. 'I feel like we were represented very well. I'm sure our strong finish in the Pac-10 helped.'

Junior 3B Vicky Galindo, junior SS Chelsea Spencer and sophomore LF Lindsay James were second team selections, while junior P Kelly Anderson and sophomore C Haley Woods received honorable mention recognition.

'This team is very strong and very well respected across the country,' said Ninemire. 'There's a lot of leadership on our team.'

Of the seven Bears receiving the Pac-10 honors, three are sophomores and four are juniors. Eldredge was all-conference twice before, receiving honorable mention in 2003 and second team honors in 2002. Anderson (second team), Galindo (second team), Thorson (honorable mention) and James (honorable mention) were all tapped as all-conference players in 2003, as well.

'It shows us great promise for next year to have so many people named for this honor,' said Ninemire. 'It gives us hope for a great postseason this year and a great season next year as well.'

California (46-11) begins its NCAA Regional Softball Championship run Thursday in Region 5 when it takes on the Black Bears of Maine (27-21) in Lincoln, Neb., at 3:30 p.m. PT.
