Holly Azevedo And The Entire Soccer Team Earns Sparky Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. - Wells Fargo Arena was the host for the first Sparky Awards on Sunday evening, Arizona State Athletic Department's ceremony recognizing excellence in athletics and academics among its student-athletes. At the awards, the women's soccer team came away with two prestigious honors.
Several Awards were presented, as the athletic department will make the Sparky Awards an annual event held each May to celebrate and award several individual and team accomplishments accomplished throughout the year. It is modeled after ESPN's ESPYs.
Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year - Soccer's Holly Azevedo was the standout scholar on a team full of them. As one of the team's top defenders, Azevedo also collected two goals, including one game-winner for last year's NCAA Tournament team.
The soccer team, coached by Ray Leone, also earned the Team Award with its 3.44 grade point average.
A total of 271 Maroon and Gold Scholar Athletes, including all 22-members of the women's soccer team, were recognized for posting a 3.0 grade point average or higher, while 46 Sun Devils earned 4.0 grade point averages.
