Mueller One Shot Off Lead At Men's Golf West Regional

The Arizona State men's golf team remains tied for third and just five shots out of the lead after the second round of the 2004 NCAA Division I West Regional held at Sunriver, Ore.

ASU (575, -1) shot a 1-over 289 on Friday and is five shots behind leader New Mexico (284-286=570). Washington and Sand Diego State are tied for ninth at 7-over 583, which is the cut line for the 27 teams, as the top 10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.

Individually, junior Jesse Mueller is one of nine players within a shot of the lead with his 4-under 140 (70-70). Four players are at 5-under 139 while five players are at 4-under 140.

Sophomore Alejandro Canizares is tied for 10th at 3-under 141 (70-71). Thirteen players are within two shots of the lead.

Senior Chez Reavie is tied for 34th at 2-over 146 (73-73), freshman Niklas Lemke is tied for 64th at 5-over 149 (74-75), while Mike Derminio is tied for 72nd at 7-over 151 (73-78).

There are 141 players competing in the Regional Championship.
