No. 3 Seed Softball Holds 2-0 Lead In 6th Inning Rain Delay Against No. 2 Seeded Tennessee
May 21, 2004
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - No. 3 seeded Oregon State University's NCAA Regional Tournament softball game against No. 2 seeded University of Tennessee has been postponed due to severe thunderstorms in Ann Arbor, MI. The Beavers currently hold a 2-0 lead with two-outs in the top of the sixth inning. Game-time has been rescheduled for 6 a.m. PDT on Saturday.
OSU scored both of its runs in the top of the third inning. Back-to-Back singles to open the frame by freshman Mia Longfellow and sophomore Vanessa Iapala against Tennessee ace Monica Abbott sparked the Beaver offense. Longfellow eventually crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to right field by freshman Brianne McGowan and Iapala made the score 2-0 when she scored after a wild pitch.
Oregon State senior hurler Monica Hoffman has faced the minimum number of batters through five innings of work. Hoffman has allowed just one hit, a single in the bottom of the fifth, and the Beaver defense has turned a pair of double plays.
